4 tips for dining out when on a diet

Summertime is a very social time with plenty of events, weddings, birthdays and outings. And the majority of the time these events circle around food.⁣

Here are some tips that help you stay on track with your diet, while still enjoying food with friends and family:

⁣ 🔸 TRACK YOUR CALORIES – All clients have been prescribed a caloric goal. Think of this as your spending budget for the day. Starting off with tracking your calories basically lets you know how much money you have spent for the day and make sure you don’t go over your budget. As long as you don’t go over your budget – you’re on the right track.⁣

🔸 HOW TO STAY WITHIN BUDGET WHEN EATING OUT – It’s your best friend’s birthday coming up? Save up those calories for that big meal at the Thai restaurant. This is when tracking your food comes in handy. You’ve been eating the whole day AND tracked it all. Now you’re aware that you have 800 calories left in your budget. You now know what you can order at the restaurant – something budget friendly! Obviously the more you save – the more you can eat.⁣

⁣ 🔸 KNOW WHAT’S AVAILABLE – Normally when it comes to social events there is a time and a place to meet. Knowing where the restaurant is comes in very handy. I find myself always Googling the restaurant. Most places have a website and most likely put their menu on it. Explore it! You can really prepare for the worst at this point. Once you know what the options are before even going to the restaurant, you can really set your mind to what you are going to order and what questions to ask the waiter/waitress.

🔸 GET YOUR PROTEIN UP – A wise way to budget your calories is to spend most of it on proteins during the day so you don’t find yourself starving throughout the day. A little hack I like to do is eat egg whites, chicken breast, and drink protein shakes. These options are quite low in carbs and fat and more protein friendly. You can eat more of the good stuff when you get to the event.
