You know when you have someone in the passenger seat in charge of playing the music or navigating maps? Yeah that’s what a coach does. They aren’t really the ones driving the car. Their main responsibility is to make sure the trip is smooth sailing and enjoyable for the driver. The responsibility of the lifter is to get from point A to point B.
A lot of people expect that once you have hired a coach, they will do the driving for them and them to their destination. The reality is they’re the ones just navigating to point B with choosing music along the way. They will write you the training program, provide nutrition protocols, and give accountability. It is the lifter’s decision to make sure that they stick to the path that is drawn out for them. Respectfully enough as a team, both the driver and the passenger will work and communicate as much as possible. Every block of training or eating is not going to be perfect.
The greatest thing about having a coach in the passenger’s seat is that they have no emotions attached to navigating your journey. Although, it should be in their best interest that you find enjoyment and education throughout the process. With that in mind, if you’re in the driver’s seat and you’re feeling lost, make sure you communicate this to the passenger.
Don’t drive on your own, it’s too hard.
